Maldives Food

Fish, especially tuna, is the backbone of Maldivian food, appearing in dishes like mas huni, a mix of tuna, coconut, onion, and chili typically eaten with flatbread (roshi). Garudhiya, a clear fish soup, is served with rice, lime, and chili. Rihaakuru, a thick fish paste, is used as a concentrated flavor base. Fried or grilled fish is common, often paired with rice or bread. Coconut is used heavily across dishes, both fresh and processed. Meals are structured around fish, rice, and coconut, with limited variation due to geography and available ingredients.
